Overview of Services

The Islet & Physiology Core is located within the IU School of Medicine Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases (CDMD) and offers a number of state-of-the-art islet services and metabolic analyses including rodent islet isolation, rodent and human islet transplantation, high-throughput analysis of β cell function and mass, and rodent metabolic phenotyping services, including analysis of rodent body composition, oral and intraperitoneal glucose tolerance tests, and insulin tolerance tests.  The Islet & Physiology Core is partially supported by the CDMD, a NIH-funded diabetes research center (NIDDK P30DK097512). The IU CDMD is one of 18 NIH-funded diabetes centers.  The overall mission of the IU CDMD is to foster knowledge and support training in diabetes and metabolic diseases.

 As we use the quantity of publications and grant applications involving the Center for Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases to illustrate our productivity in various applications for funding, we ask that users notify us when publishing data collected in the Center. Furthermore, please include an acknowledgment of "The Center for Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases Islet & Physiology Core (P30DK097512)" for published data obtained using Center equipment and services.”

Authorship is not required on publications.  If criteria fitting the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors criteria for authorship is met (ex. Literature review and providing assistance in selecting/conceiving the experiments appropriate for the study goals, Experimental design, Assay development/optimization, Data analysis and interpretation of data, or both, Preparation of pertinent sections/figures for the manuscript and revisions to address reviewer concerns/questions) please contact the Core directly for further discussion.

The Core operates on a fee-for-service structure.  Cost estimates are listed when requesting services.  Users are able to select the payment account(s) at the time of service request.  If recovery of payment becomes an issue, the Core business manager(s) will contact the customer and/or their department to collect charges owed. If there is a dispute in charges, the conflict resolution policy will be followed.
