Collaborative Metabolome Core

Overview of Services

Metabolomics plays a vital role in biomedical research by offering comprehensive insights into metabolic pathways and disease mechanisms. To enhance the IU School of Medicine’s metabolomics research capabilities, the Metabolomics Collaborative Core provides a structured workflow and institutional support for service provider selection, data handling, and analysis..

Why use Virtual Metabolomic services?

  • The core acts as a navigator to streamline the selection process and ensure Users choose the most appropriate service provider based on their study needs.
  • Users receive guidance on experimental design, optimizing sample preparation, and study parameters.
  • The core helps negotiate bulk pricing with vendors.
  • Users avoid paying for unnecessary services by receiving expert consultation from the core.
  • The core manages the payment, reducing administrative burden
  • The core provides a structured workflow
  • The core reviews the data quality
  • Users can store the data within the CMG centralized data storage portal.
  • Users benefit from in-house data analysis from the bioinformatics expert
  • Users can request grant/paper preparation assistance

The workflow emphasizes collaboration between users, core, and vendors to ensure high-quality data analysis and secure data management within the IUSM infrastructure. This structured approach facilitates efficient metabolomics research, supporting further research, publications, and funding applications. This outlines a structured workflow for metabolomics research. Here's a summary of the key steps and components:

Steps 1 and 2: The User enquires about the metabolomic service and meets with the core team to decide on the service provider and if they prefer to use the core's data analysis services.

Steps 3 and 4: A meeting with the User, core team, and service provider to finalize the plan, including signing the statement of work.

Step 5:The User ships samples to the selected service provider.

Step 6: The service provider processes the samples and shares the deliverables with the User and core team.

Step 7: The core team evaluates the data quality. The core processes data (if the User requests), performs data analysis, including quality control, statistical analysis, and pathway analysis, and generates a final report. Confirm the final report with the User.

Step 8: The core team approves the payment to the service provider and closes the project.
